I’ve been intrigued by the supernatural and paranormal for as long as I can remember. I had never seen anything myself—just pictures and stories in books and documentaries. All of that changed when I was sixteen.
My parents own 11.5 wooded acres in Pennsylvania, just past the Ohio line off I-90. It was there that my best friend PJ and I saw what we believe was a Bigfoot.
One fall evening, we were playing paintball in the woods. Sometime between 10 p.m. and midnight, we both started shooting at what we thought was each other. About ten feet away, a massive creature stood. I’m 6’8”, and whatever was in the woods that night was taller than I am.
I took off running down the trail faster than I ever had—before or since. When I reached the trailhead, PJ nearly knocked me over, sprinting toward the house. We looked at each other and said, “Did you see that? What the hell was it?” We quickly agreed we had no idea what we’d seen out there—and we kept running like hell back to the house.
Even today, twenty-five years later, we both remember that night vividly—and we still have no explanation for what that creature could have been, other than a Bigfoot.
My next experience with the paranormal came four or five years later. I was attending Columbus State Community College in Columbus, Ohio.
One day, as I was coming up the stairs into the hallway of Aquinas Hall, I saw a very attractive woman in an old 1800s-style red dress. She was walking down the hall at the far end. I figured there must be a Renaissance fair or club or something like that going on. Curious, I walked down the hallway. I looked away for just a moment—and she was gone.
I peeked into the nearest classroom. It was empty. I walked to the other staircase, where a guy coming onto the floor asked if I’d seen where the woman in the red dress had gone. I said I thought she went down the hallway he’d just come from. He said he’d seen her walking in my direction.
At the time, I thought it was strange—but not necessarily supernatural.
A few weeks later, my friend Becky—also a student ambassador—told me that Aquinas Hall was supposedly haunted by a woman in a red dress. I told Becky about what I’d seen. She shared a story of her own.
A few weeks earlier, her father had been visiting campus. Naturally, she gave him a tour. She stepped away for a moment to say hello to a friend, and a few minutes later, she found him sitting on a bench in front of Aquinas Hall. As she walked up, she saw him talking—but no one was nearby. Becky asked her dad who he’d been talking to. He told her a pretty woman in a dress had been sitting next to him just a second earlier.
Several months later, I had a second supernatural experience at Columbus State—this time in the library.
I had a big project to work on, so I went up to the top floor of the library, hoping to be alone. After about an hour, I heard children running around and laughing. It went on for a while before my inner old man kicked in, and I went looking for the adult responsible for the noisy kids disrupting my concentration.
I couldn’t find anyone else on the floor. The noise stopped, so I went back to my quiet corner and kept working. A few minutes later, the kids were back. I went looking for an adult again—still no one. The noise stopped once more.
I returned to my spot, and again the kids started up. This time, I let it go, finished what I needed to, and noticed the library was about to close. I used the restroom and gathered my things to leave.
As I was leaving, I startled one of the librarians who was locking the doors. She said she didn’t realize anyone was still in the building. I asked if the group of kids who’d been running around had left while I was in the restroom. She told me no one had come in for hours—and they thought I’d slipped out earlier.
As a student ambassador, I gave campus tours regularly and knew a lot of people who worked at the college. I started asking around and found that others had shared similar experiences. They heard kids playing—but no one could ever find them. Some even complained to staff, but they never found anyone either.
Columbus State Community College is rumored to have been built on an old Catholic cemetery. Some believe the spirits from those disturbed graves still haunt the school.
In the years that followed, my interest in the paranormal only grew. I watched every documentary I could get my hands on. I started investigating haunted locations whenever I had the chance. I also kept searching state and national parks—or any area I could get access to—for Sasquatch or other cryptids.
We investigate and research the unexplained and look for answers.
